You’ve probably seen it before in newspaper prints or magazine ads – the dot patterns you’ve seen were actually halftones!

In screen printing, halftones are methods of emulating gradients through the use of dot patterns in various shapes and sizes. It is a technique often used by designers as a way to simulate a fading effect in screen printing. You can apply halftones to your design when you have:

gradients.

gradual fading in the colors.

colors blending together.

photographic images.

Halftones offers a more unique look by adding an extra level of detail to your design. It is also an easy solution for those who wants to achieve gradient effects on screen printed bottles.

Paper labels have some severe limitations. The edges of the paper constrain your layout and art is often cut off abruptly. Paperless labels allow you to “float” your label art, or spread it out across the surface of the bottle.

When you open your label up and give it some breathing room, two things happen:

Your label becomes easier to read. A comfortable amount of space between label elements allows your customers to comprehend the details individually, rather than all at once.

Less clutter means more focus for your brand. Your logo will be more memorable when it isn’t crowded into the rest of your design.

Take these points into consideration when designing your paperless label. If you have an existing label that you want to convert into a paperless design, the transition may be easier than you think. Our designers are happy to help.

That isn’t just descriptive text on the back of your bottle – it’s opportunity. Telling your story is a great way to connect with customers more intimately and let them know what makes your product special. Your label design should give your story the prominence it deserves.

When designing a paperless label, you automatically have the the story-telling advantage. Without paper boundaries, your story is free to use much more of the bottle’s surface.

Text can fall anywhere between the start of the shoulder down to a few millimeters above bottle mold markings. That means you’ll have plenty of space for your story despite all the other required label elements.
